Remembering Scott Braut, A Friend to The Photographic Community

Scott Braut, the head of content for Adobe Stock, passed away on September 7. It has taken everyone at Adobe some time to begin to come to terms with the unexpected passing of a great friend and leader. Our thoughts are with Scott’s family and his friends, many of whom are, of course, Adobe employees.

The outpouring of tributes and remembrances has reminded us that Scott was not only a member of the Adobe family, but also a respected, positive contributor to our larger creative community. Scott had a passion for the craft of photography that energized photographers; he was recognized as a tireless advocate for his fellow artists; and he had built a career around making sure creatives were fairly compensated for their work.

In his three years here, Scott spearheaded the delivery of unique, stunning content to Adobe Stock. The beautiful, breathtaking images that creatives see every day, when browsing and using Adobe Stock, is part of Scott’s legacy. Scott embodied better than anyone our desire to build a marketplace for the long term, where contributors can earn regular income that justly rewards them for their talent. He also saw that, for some contributors, the stock business is a means to pursue their artistic passions, so they can use earnings to learn new skills or purchase that latest “must have” lens. Scott understood the motivations of contributors, and Creative Cloud and Adobe Stock gave him a global platform to positively impact the photography community and the wider creative market. That’s why he often referred to his work at Adobe as “the job of a lifetime.”

Another part of Scott’s legacy is his mentoring of photographers, other creatives, and his teammates here at Adobe – as well as colleagues at previous roles, including Associated Press, Corbis, Digital Railroad, and Shutterstock. Throughout his professional life Scott helped countless photographers navigate the transition to the digital world and build long-lasting careers. And as a manager, he was a role model for building and leading teams.

Our friend Scott is deeply missed but we are thankful for his lasting impact on Adobe and the creative community he cared so much about.
